Sager Creek Phase I

This project was a partnership between Flow State, IRWP and the City of Siloam Springs to address erosion and stormwater issues along Sager Creek in downtown Siloam Springs.  The first phase included a stream bank stabilization project near the square on Sager Creek along with a constructed bioswale, boardwalk and observation deck in Bob Henry park.  The stream portion involved removing and replacing a failed rock revetment that was actively eroding and threatening the adjacent greenway.  A new channel alignment was defined and more suitable rock was chosen and installed along the creek.  Bio-Blocks were installed along the edge of the rock revetment and the newly graded banks were densely planted with native pollinator plants to prevent erosion, increase aesthetics and provide pollinator habitat along the creek.

In addition to the stream restoration, we also addressed a failing drainage ditch along the east side of Bob Henry Park which was frequently being overwhelmed causing flooding.  The ditch was removed and a large bioswale/pond was installed with a water control structure at the outlet.  The bioswale was densely planted with native plants including grasses, forbs, trees and shrubs.  The greenway was routed through the bioswale with an elevated boardwalk and a deck/viewing platform was installed along the edge of the creek.
