McKisic Creek Greenway Stream Restoration

This project restored a 550-ft section of McKisic Creek just upstream of McNelly Rd. The goal of the project was to reduce erosion and improve stream habitat as well as provide improved access and recreation for the community.

A variety of Natural Channel Design stream restoration techniques were utilized to build this project and return the channel to a stable form. Riffle rock grade control structures were installed to maintain channel elevation and provide continuity upstream and downstream of the project.  Eroded streambanks were stabilized by building a combination of stacked rock revetments, toe-wood structures, and brush mattresses. These features provide lateral surface protection for the streambanks while also providing a variety of aquatic habitat. The in-stream structures create large scour pools which provide an ideal place for the community to gather and swim.
