Summary
- Restored incised stream channels within a public park setting, improving function and appearance.
- Raised bed elevations and stabilized banks with stone structures and native revegetation.
Project Description
This project was a special integration of Natural Channel Design principles that melded into a park/landscape design project at the lower ramble in Fayetteville, AR. Prior to construction, the site was plagued with incised stream channels and riparian zones choked with invasive species. The restoration involved reviving the old stream channels by raising bed elevations with the use of step pool rock structures and using large, stacked native stone for bank protection. The project not only addressed the erosion problems but increased the aesthetics of the stream corridors significantly. The native revegetation done by WCRC created a stable and beautiful riparian zone that is full of native pollinators and flowering plants throughout the year.
